Hey all, sorry I've been a bit tardy on this. I've been pretty busy with work, the holidays and this crazy thing called life.
In any event, I've had the privilege of checking out a number of good, bad, and just plain ugly movies this year and wanted to share with you my Top Ten Best Movie Experiences and, well, my Top Six Worst Experiences.
Keep in mind, I haven't seen a handful of the best-reviewed movies of 2019 (yet) such as 1917, Last Black Man in San Francisco, Little Women, Jo Jo Rabbit, and others. Maybe they'll show up on the 2020 list. Who knows? 🤷🏻♂️
As always, I'm trying to pimp my Twitter site 1SentenceMovieReview so enjoy the links and be sure to follow my @EimerFilmReview feed. Enjoy!
Eimer's Best Movie Experiences of 2019
'#DarkWaters ': Mark Ruffalo & Dir. Haynes spotlight a real-life Erin Brockovich'ish West Virginia lawsuit against #Dupont & Teflon ☠️💦 in a must-see flick that will make you sad, angry and, by the end of the film, very very scared😱 pic.twitter.com/E8y3vYocxt— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) December 10, 2019
'#WheredYouGoBernadette ': Dir. Linklater (Boyhood) & Blanchett create a funny, quirky, feel-good midlife-crisis movie about passion, ambition, creativity, & the search for meaning in this enigmatic world pic.twitter.com/MEGDgbGBJj— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) December 4, 2019
'#TheIrishmanFilm ': DeNiro, Pesci, and Pacino kept my attention for the entire 3.5 hours in Scorsese's Jimmy Hoffa mafia masterpiece; but the director probably should've used younger actors to portray the three in their younger years🍀 pic.twitter.com/SQYR91IKtr— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) November 29, 2019
'#JokerFilm ': A well-acted, revamped origin story to Gotham's most notorious villain that also feels like an homage to Scorcese's 'Taxi Driver' and 'King of Comedy' pic.twitter.com/CP3JVPcGIm— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) October 16, 2019
'#FreeSolo ': Impressive, breathtaking film about Alex Honnold, the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's El Capitan Wall, is definitely worth a view in a theater & among the best docs of the year pic.twitter.com/47rSGHw3RL— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) February 18, 2019
'#TheBalladofBusterScruggs ': Once again, the Coen Brothers 'shot me in the back' with this visually entertaining, thought-provoking, well-written, creative Western told in six poetically violent, ironically comedic tales @balladofbuster pic.twitter.com/XRjx5bTz9F— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) March 4, 2019
'#UsMovie ': Writer/Director Peele avoids the sophomore slump with this entertainingly eerie, family poison concoction of #C.H.U.D. meets #InvasionOfTheBodySnatchers meets #Them meets #ThePurge 🤲🏾🤝💀🐰 pic.twitter.com/UIhQjZFwZ9— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) April 2, 2019
'#ArcticMovie ': What ALL IS LOST and Robert Redford did for soul survival on a boat, Director Penna does the same in this stranded-on-a-frigid-arctic-tundra film; with mesmerizing visuals & a virtually silent, yet gripping, performance by Mikkelsen pic.twitter.com/yYH1bjPklO— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) May 12, 2019
'#TheBeachBum ': Irreverent, salty, slightly indecent, enjoyable comedy about a convivial Key West poetic vagrant (McConaughey) attempt to write the next great American novel & the characters he meets along the way pic.twitter.com/fH31qE7Tgu— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) June 20, 2019
'#OnceUponATimeInHollywood ': Tarantino takes you on a fascinating, perfectly paced, semi-fairytale filmmaking odyssey showcasing the sights, sounds, & hippy freakiness of '69 Tinseltown pic.twitter.com/mAY9hSd4DT— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) August 8, 2019
And Now ........
Eimer's Worst Experiences of 2019
'#ElRoyaleMovie ': A well-made #Tarantino rip-off; complete with conflicted characters, set in an obscure hotel, w/ tinges of ultra-violence, meshed w/ a cool soundtrack and hip 70's vibe; that barely cuts the muster pic.twitter.com/X3vPl5fnIF— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) April 3, 2019
'#Godzilla2 ': You'll scream at the shoddy script, wince at the humdrum monster battles, bewilder at the ludicrous plot, and curse at the gimmicky 3D; but you'll swoon at Ken Watanabe's perfect enunciation of 'Godzilla' pic.twitter.com/7fdrPspQQP— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) June 4, 2019
‘#HolmesAndWatson ’ : I tried to use my deduction skills as to why the first 20 minutes of this highly-anticipated detective comedy wasn’t really that funny, and then I solved the case when I didn’t see Adam McKay’s name in the directing credits pic.twitter.com/yfweL7vyrU— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) August 22, 2019
#GlassMovie : Shamalyan's final installment in the Unbreakable superhero trilogy was a little fragile in terms of direction and script, which shattered any hopes I had for this flimsy flick pic.twitter.com/nA1nREJ1Qh— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) October 9, 2019
'#InTheTallGrass ': This #Netflix flick about supernatural sod proves that maybe not all Stephen King & Joe Hill short stories should be made into movies pic.twitter.com/eXQJPmgYwD— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) October 28, 2019
'#ISeeYouMovie ': This thriller about #phrogging 🐸(look it up!) has so many twists the only thing you'll be croaking about is the cardboard acting and Helen Hunt's emotionless depiction of a fractured housewife😱 pic.twitter.com/cB5yCRRPIn— 1SentenceMovieReview (@EimerFilmReview) December 9, 2019
